Children's book authors share inspiration and read at First Lutheran School of Venice's open house and book fair

Two children’s book authors, Stephen Cook and Maureen McGrath, will discuss what inspired them to become authors as well as what inspired their books at the First Lutheran School open house & book fair on Jan. 23 at 11:00 a.m.. After this brief discussion, the authors will read to the children and invite them to create art projects related to their books, while parents are invited to tour the book fair and campus. Among the authors participating are: Stephen Cook Stephen Cook is the author/illustrator of Day Out With Daddy. A comical picture book told from the perspective of a child. Day Out With Daddy was published by Walker and Company and awarded to the Kansas National Educational Association Reading List. Stephen is also an award-winning advertising and marketing art director and lives with his wife and three kids in the South Bay. Maureen McGrath Maureen McGrath is the author/illustrator of Spunky's Special Friend, which depicts the story of how differences can often bring us together, rather than apart. Spunky's Special Friend is the story of an unlikely friendship between a puppy and a butterfly. Maureen McGrath's dream has always been to see her drawings in print so they could touch the lives of all children. She is the manager of an art gallery in Ojai, California, and is currently working on her second children's book, Tale of the Cat with the Crooked Tail, and a spiritual book, A Walk with Angels.
