I am the Gardenmaster at The Learning Garden on the campus of Venice High School; You can find my LA Garden blog at http:\\lagarden.blogspot.com or The Beautiful Food Garden at http:\\beautifulfoodgarden.com. I write and teach gardening and am community garden and food security activist.
Wanted to reintroduce myself, I met you through Julie Mann awhile back - brought my boys and husband to The Learning Garden one day to pick up the dirt donated to Beethoven -
good to see you here! We need to come visit the garden again! What a beautiful place you guys have made! It is a Gorgeous Sanctuary in Venice!
Best to you and yours,
Kellie Ann and the Devine Boys
It’s Pesto Time again! The Learning Garden grows its own special varieties of basil and heirloom garlic. We blend them with olive oil, pine nuts, a smidgen of fresh pepper and love to create our own PESTO MADNESS PESTO. Shine up your taste buds because it’s time for our Sixth Annual PESTO DAY!! Here is your opportunity to pre-order our famous pesto. This year at the event, pesto will be $8.00/8 ounces, but by preordering, you’ll get the same half-pint for $7.00 each! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for details!
Yes, that is a shot of a spot in our garden. This is my very first experience and I am trying not to screw it up...learning how to tell what is getting too much water and not enough. Trying to figure out why a plant is happy in some spots and not in others. Would love to expand to planting food in my future. Is the Learning Garden open to visitors? It sounds wonderful!
Our motivation was conserving water - we've reduced our water usage by at least 50% and the bonus is that we love the areas we created and use them as though they are new rooms in our house. We are thrilled!
I am new to the area (although a native) and was referred to you by James Brennan. I have a strong interest in looking in to starting another community garden in the area. I know there is much talk about the various empty lots on Washington and I personally have much experience in gardening and a strong passion for food justice and access in urban areas. If you have any pointers or are already moving on this idea, please let me know.
