Comment by Christopher McKinnon on March 4, 2009 at 1:33pm: The closest free city mulch made from our Green bins has now reopened near the old site at 6000 West Jefferson 90016 but the trick is they relocated it to the rear of the property. Driving Eastbound on Jefferson after Culver City ends and LA begins look for 6000 W. Jefferson but then turn right on Holdredge Ave. 1 block and right on Bowcroft Street 1 block to the end. The mulch pile is on the right next to the chain link fence. Didn't seem to be gated so it should be available 24/7. The city replenishes it every few weeks or days depending on use. Bring your own shovel, bags, pickup truck etc.

Comment by Sherri Akers on March 12, 2009 at 3:41pm: Does anyone know a collection center for wine corks so they will be recycled? In Northern California you can take them to Whole Foods but they have not implemented it here yet. We had a community member ask about it. Thanks!

Comment by Sherri Akers on March 12, 2009 at 3:56pm: Fred - apparently recycling corks could have a big impact when you start considering restaurants etc. There is a movement to do it that began in Oregon and moved to No Calif. Whole Foods told me they plan to expand it to So Cal but they don't know when. I found this organization that you can send them to http://www.yemmhart.com/news+/winecorkrecycling.htm but postage for any significant quantity would be costly. I was thinking we could have a collection bin at the booth at Farmers Market is we had a destination for them. But I don't think you want hundreds of them....?
