On December 3 from 6 pm to 9 pm, Steppin into the Art of Mar Vista will have its inaugural celebration on the one-mile stretch of Venice Boulevard between Inglewood Boulevard and Beethoven Street.
Designated as one of Mayor Garcetti’s “Great Streets” of Los Angeles, the nine-block strip will celebrate all the arts – visual, musical, spoken and movement – as well as its history as one of Los Angeles’ oldest artist colonies.
Steppin Into the Art of Mar Vista is a joint effort of local environmental nonprofit Green Communications Initiative (GCI) and the unofficial “Mayor of Mar Vista art”, painter Mitchelito Orquiola, with enthusiastic support of CD-11 councilmember Mike Bonin and the local neighborhood council.
WHAT YOU WILL SEE:
*Look for a billboard on Venice at Grand View Avenue for an artwork heralding the event.
*Live painting – two painters take turns with brushes at a canvas, to the accompaniment of live music and dance.
* A group show of 32-artists, each who created art with a toy train set.
* Spoken word.
*Environmentally themed scavenger hunt by Dreameco Crafts
ALSO: Free potter’s wheel demonstration and handmade arts & crafts.
